FlashbackIt turns out my mother has kept my first ever camera (yes, the Soviet-made camera I mention in my Bio). I was so happy to hear that it’s still around, I immediately asked her to email me some pictures. Which she did, thanks mom, love you! Here it is, along with its original box, next to a box of matches. Hmm, still in great shape, I guess my tendency to be very “particular” with my things existed even back then.

Such a nostalgic feeling, looking at these photographs. I swear I can imagine hearing the sound the camera makes when you pop it open, I remember feeling it in my hands…

This tiny beast fits 72 frames on a 36-frame 35mm film roll and boasts an impressive 28mm f/2.8 lens. But all that really meant nothing to me back then, I was just happy to snap a picture of everything I could.

Funny, I remember seeing an SLR a kid in my neighborhood had back then and dreaming of owning one. Who knew that rangefinders like these would be what I look for in the used camera stores a quarter of a century later… What was your first camera? | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
